Drive Navarre Parkway on any given Saturday morning and you will pass three storefronts that did not exist, in their current form, a year ago. One sells oil paintings that hang in a permanent museum collection two states away. One teaches teenagers how to hold a charcoal pencil correctly. One just cut its ribbon in May. None of them are trying to be the other.
That is the part worth sitting with. Small towns get "an art studio opened" as a headline all the time, usually as filler between the new coffee shop and the road project. What happened in Navarre this year is different, because the three studios split up the work of a local art scene instead of piling into the same lane. A resident who wanted a serious painting for the living room had nowhere to go in Navarre proper before this spring. A resident who wanted structured drawing lessons for a kid, the kind that build toward something rather than a single evening's craft project, had nowhere to go either. Now both exist, on the same stretch of highway, within months of each other.
The Count Nobody Was Tracking
Navarre Press reported it plainly when Haven Art Studio opened at 9542 Navarre Parkway: the business is the third art studio to open in Navarre this year. The Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for Haven on May 16, and the studio opened its doors on June 1.
Work backward from there and the other two line up cleanly with 2026:
- Beck Fine Art Gallery — 8746 Ortega Park Drive, grand opening March 13
- Foshee Studios — 7287 Navarre Pkwy, profiled by Navarre Press in early April as a couple's new venture
- Haven Art Studio — 9542 Navarre Parkway, ribbon cut May 16, opened June 1
Three openings inside roughly ten weeks is not a coincidence a casual observer would notice on their own. It took the local paper counting them one at a time to make the pattern visible.
A National Painter Chooses a Highway Storefront
The most surprising name on that list is Dan Beck. He is not a hobbyist trying out a storefront. Beck has painted professionally for 40 years, holds Master Signature Member status with the American Impressionist Society, and won the Gold Medal at the Oil Painters of America National Exhibition in 2011 and the Eastern Regional Exhibition in 2017. His work sits in the permanent collection of the Littleton Historical Museum and has been featured in Fine Art Connoisseur, American Art Collector, and Southwest Art.
For ten years Beck ran his gallery out of Wilmington, North Carolina. He relocated to Navarre in 2025, and the grand opening of Beck Fine Art Gallery followed in March 2026. The gallery keeps regular hours, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and shows primarily Beck's recent original work with occasional guest artists.
What that means locally is straightforward: a working artist with a national exhibition record and a decade of gallery experience elsewhere decided Navarre was the right place to plant a permanent gallery, not a seasonal pop-up. That is a different kind of vote of confidence than a new restaurant opening, and it is one most residents driving past Ortega Park Drive would not have any way of knowing without someone spelling it out.
The Recruiter Who Started Teaching Drawing
Foshee Studios has a different story behind it, and a different job to do. Morgan Foshee spent her working life recruiting for Adobe, the company behind Photoshop, before deciding to teach art full time. Her studio at 7287 Navarre Pkwy runs a classical drawing and painting program built around progression rather than one-off projects, alongside watercolor classes, pottery, paint nights, and floral arrangement workshops taught by a rotating group of local artists.
That structure matters. A paint-and-sip evening gives someone a fun night out and a canvas to take home. A classical training program gives someone, adult or teenager, an actual skill they build on class after class. Foshee Studios is filling the second category, which simply did not exist in Navarre before her business opened this spring.
What Was Already Here
None of this happened in a vacuum. Navarre already had The Makers Studio, a paint-and-sip business tucked into Sand Dollar Plaza at 1900 Hwy 87, open Thursday through Saturday for casual, social art nights. And twice a month, the same plaza hosts the Highway 87 Market, an outdoor vendor market held the first and third Saturday, where local makers sell food, art, and decor out of booths set up behind the storefronts.
Those two pieces covered the casual end of the spectrum well: show up, have a glass of wine, paint something loose, or browse a Saturday market table. What neither one offered was a place to study drawing seriously over months, or a gallery wall hung with paintings by someone whose work has been juried into national shows.
The Shape of the Gap That Closed
Line the five up and the picture gets clearer. The Makers Studio and the Highway 87 Market handle casual and social. Foshee Studios handles structured instruction. Beck Fine Art Gallery handles serious collecting. Haven Art Studio, the newest of the three, adds another point of access without duplicating what the others already do.
That is the actual story here, and it is not one a single ribbon-cutting article or a single gallery opening would tell on its own. It took watching all three open over ten weeks to see that Navarre moved from having one kind of art experience to having something closer to a full range, casual to serious, social to solitary, in under a year.
A Saturday That Didn't Exist Last Year
For a resident planning a weekend, that range now translates into actual options that fit together within a few miles of each other:
- Start at the Highway 87 Market at Sand Dollar Plaza on a first or third Saturday morning, browsing vendor booths for food, art, and decor.
- Walk a few doors down to The Makers Studio if the market crowd puts you in the mood to paint something yourself.
- Stop by Foshee Studios on Navarre Pkwy to see what class or workshop is running that week, whether it's watercolor, pottery, or a floral arrangement session.
- Finish at Beck Fine Art Gallery on Ortega Park Drive, open Tuesday through Saturday, to see what an Oil Painters of America Gold Medalist is currently showing.
None of that existed as a single afternoon a year ago. It does now, and it happened quietly enough that most residents driving past these storefronts have no idea the count is three.
Navarre changes in small, specific ways more often than people watching from outside the community realize. Noticing them, and knowing what they actually add up to, is part of what makes living here interesting.
